Which composite decking boards are sold in Australia?
The boards below are the Australian composite boards we have verified, sorted by brand. “Not published” means the maker’s page didn’t give the figure, and we don’t fill it in.

Joist centres are the maximum each maker states for residential use. They come from fixing sheets and manuals of differing dates, so read the current guide for your board.
What do the differences mean?
- Length. Most ranges are 5.4 m. NewTechWood’s Avenue and Coastal are 4.88 m, ModWood’s Marina is 4.2 m and Millboard’s board is 3.6 m. A shorter board means more butt joints, and each one needs support.
- Joist spacing. ModWood allows 450 mm on its Natural Grain boards and 600 mm on the thicker Marina; Ekodeck’s Summit gets 500 mm in its manual, and NewTechWood’s Coastal 400 mm. A wider spacing means fewer joists, but only if your frame maker allows it.
- Profile. Several ranges are grooved or edge-grooved for hidden clips, and each maker has its own clip.
How do the warranties compare?
ModWood’s Xtreme Guard carries 25 years residential and 10 commercial, NewTechWood 25 residential and 10 commercial, Ekodeck’s Classic up to 15 years, and Futurewood 10 domestic and 7 commercial. Several pages quote ranges or conflict, so we leave some blank in the table. The composite decking page lists the conditions.
Where do I find bushfire ratings?
By board, on the maker’s certificate. ModWood’s Flame Shield is BAL-40, and Ekodeck’s Flame Fighter, Futurewood’s Co-Ex and NewTechWood’s Coastal are BAL-29. See the composite decking page for the table and caveats, and best brands for how we compare.

Questions
What are composite deck boards?
Planks of plastic mixed with wood fibre or minerals, made to replace timber boards on a deck frame. Most Australian ranges are co-extruded, which means a protective shell wraps the core.
What are the best decking boards?
There is no single best board; it depends on your site. Compare joist spacing, bushfire rating, warranty terms and how each maker says to clean it. Our best brands page sets out who publishes what.
Are composite boards cheaper than timber?
We haven't found a dated Australian price for any of these boards, so we can't say. Most makers sell through stockists or quotes. Use your quotes in the cost calculator and compare per square metre.
